Subject Position

Our subject position is everything that goes to make up what we are and where we fit in the world.

My subject position is female, 13 years old, white, student who lives in Cornwall. 

Two Opinions people may have on this magazine are:          

     "She looks so beautiful, i love Rihanna and i wanna see what coats they're showing because i love fashion" OR

"She's overrated i don't get why so many people like her and this magazine, fashion is so boring, i don't understand why people care so much about how their clothes look"

Denotation- The dictionary definition

Connotation- The deeper meaning - what we associate with the word

1. Denote- A gun

Connote- Danger, Evil, Death, Protection, Murderer, Violence

2. Denote- A clown

Connote- Child, Colourful, Weird, Funny, Party, Tricks, Balloons, Creepy, Killer Clowns

3. Denote- Thor, Hammer, Cape, Armour

Connote- Danger, Violence, Strength, Godly, Fighter, Serious, Angry, Powerful, Magic, Bravery, Hero

The woman on the poster is dressed very fancy and classy she's wearing jewellery which looks expensive because of the sparkle they've put on it, where as with the man you can't really see his outfit but it doesn't look that smart, this makes it seem like the woman is quite wealthy, but the man is poor. There is also a ship which suggests there is a ship involved or it's set on one. The two main characters are hugging so that gives the idea that they're in love and something tragic happens, they're holding onto each other and don't want to let go. As well as the "Nothing on earth could come between them" written below them, which also makes you think something is trying to bring them apart, but it's not necessarily a person because they said "nothing on earth" instead of 'no one'. The colours are very neutral which creates a calm sense of feeling, they have fair hair colours and gentle expressions, which suggests that it's a calm type of love, or at least when they're alone together. The font style is very bold but elegant, it's all in capital letters and in colours that fit the calm theme. The actors involved in the film "Titanic" are usually acting in romantic or dramatic shows, so that could give people an idea of the genre this film is. The target audience for this film is probably women or feminine people because of the pose the characters are doing and the colours, but of course anyone could watch it but the most popular audience is most likely women.
